Description:  Responsible for overall system management, performance optimization and tuning, capacity planning and system configuration. Maintains current level of operating system software and firmware. Plans, schedules, and implements platform upgrades. Provides systems technical support to users, both internal and external, and coordinates problem resolution with vendors.
- Manages all platforms computing system resources to achieve the optimum performance for batch and interactive processing, as well as response time.
- Performs capacity planning including tracking historical usage, monitoring current usage, projecting future resource usage, assessing overall resource demands, and projecting the cost and timing of system upgrades. Monitor and track performance and prepare status reports on overall system performance.
- Maintains recent levels of the operating system software on all platforms and applies appropriate patches or updates as necessary or recommended by the vendor. Maintains documentation related to operating system configuration.
- Maintains and manages the system hardware configuration. Using performance and capacity planning information, recommends and plans platform system, CPU, memory, and disk upgrades. Maintains documentation related to system hardware configuration.
- Supports the Computer Operations and application support staff by maintaining documentation on system operating procedures, streamlining procedures as required, and assisting in production system-related problem solving.
- Designs and supports system backups and backup devices. Maintains documentation related to proper system backups and recovery. Participates in disaster recovery testing.
- Maintains proper device configurations for network printers, ethernet connections, and synchronous/asynchronous communications to the mid-range systems. Provides knowledgeable information for problem determination and technological improvements. Assists IT Data Communications staff with problem identification and resolution related to system communication issues.
  • Requirements/Certifications: Experience with Microsoft Windows Server platforms including Windows Server 2008 and 2012 required.  Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SCOM and SCCM beneficial.  Amazon AWS and VMware virtualization skills a plus.
