Job Description:
Focus Areas: Network infrastructure and communication systems standards, integration, development, implementation and support.  
• Assist in coordinating strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining the network. This includes planning technology roadmaps, and configuring and optimizing all networking systems and services – 20%
• Project management and participation – 25%
• Support existing Cisco infrastructure to facilitate daily operations as necessary. Act as primary or escalation contact as appropriate. - 35%
• Recommend new technology by attending seminars, learning about industry trends, or through hands-on experimentation – 10%
• Although the primary focus of this position is to implement and support networking and voice installations, the resource may also be tasked with general support and projects which may include security, routing, switching and other network related duties. - 10%
• Other duties as assigned, to include on-call rotation and travel
NOTE: Percentages allocations are preliminary and will vary based on technology and business demands.
• Assist with planning, designing and advising on configuration of the enterprise’s network layer (e.g., layer 3 switching and routing, IP address).
• Create and implement project plans, ensure adherence to project timelines, perform project risk assessment and develop contingency risk plans.
• Assist with ensuring best practices, standards and guidelines are applied in developing, designing and implementing solutions, establishing work priorities, resolving problems and reporting on project status. 
• Assist with providing physical and virtual security for enterprise communications infrastructure technologies (e.g., hardware firewalls, intrusion detection system, web filtering, port/protocol blocking)
• Assist with conducting risk assessments and business impact analysis to identify vulnerable areas and applications within the environment.  Assist with creating remediation plans.
• Performance tune and optimize assigned technologies in the enterprise’s network and transport layers.
• Assist with ensuring adequate backup equipment systems and processes are in place to preserve vital information, data, and/or media
• Assist with researching disaster avoidance strategies
• Support existing environment as necessary, either as primary contact or as escalation contact
• Stay abreast of trends in the field of computer technology by attending and participating in conferences, seminars, training and career development activities; researches and evaluates software, hardware and technology products and trends.
• Go onsite as necessary to facilitate projects or support issues.
• Handle special requests and non-standard requests from Management
• Produce and maintain documentation (ex. device configurations, IOS versions, topology mapping, network layers).
• Integrate new communications technologies into our environment.
• Assist with supporting the ongoing SmartNet contract
• On-Call 24/7 support duties on rotational basis
Some travel may be required

Minimum Requirements

Required Knowledge and Skills:
• 1-2 years of Wide Area Network (WAN) management experience
• 1-2 years of experience in a large inter-networking or distributed computing environment
• Advanced knowledge of Cisco Networking hardware and IOS.
• Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN hardware devices, specifically Cisco routers and switches
• Working knowledge of networks, security guidelines and industry “best practices”
• In-depth understanding of TCP/IP
• Understanding of Data Center design and maintenance
• Understanding of Facility wiring design and implementation
• Understanding of Disaster Recovery concepts and applications
• Ability to solve technical problems
• Ability to analyze network data
• Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
• Ability to apply technology and process solutions to business problems
• Working knowledge of outsource hosting services a plus
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
• Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees, telecom companies, vendors, and other organizations
• Proven ability to work independently to complete projects/goals
• Results-orientation: positive goal-oriented attitude in the workplace
• College degree preferred
• Preferred Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA)
• 1-2 years experience - Enterprise level network support and design
• 1-2 years experience - Enterprise level telecom support and design
